I grew up in a small town in Minnesota and moved to the Pacific Northwest to attend the University of Puget Sound, where I earned a degree in English with a minor in Economics.
I went back to school in Northern California to pursue a career in graphic design and visual art because I believe great design is important. Every project is an opportunity to communicate a message that ultimately reflects and influences our culture. I have a passion for broad conceptual thinking and get a lot of satisfaction from researching and collaborating. Other people's work is a constant inspiration to me and I respect all the hard-working creatives who have paved the way. As a colleague and independent contractor I'm known for my optimism, enthusiasm, imagination, and determination.
Portland, OR is my new home and I'm excited to explore the design scene and become part of the creative culture.
"Melissa's role in our organization was to handle all things related to design and technology, while providing editorial and organizational support, and she’s quite good at it. But frankly, in a town [San Francisco] overrun with a technology-focused workforce, her formidable design skills were not what won over our hiring committee—it was her generosity of spirit, her attentiveness to others, and her reliability. I’ve been careful to hire a staff made up of people who work well within a team, and Melissa was a perfect fit."
